User Profile:
Your user profile is your personal login to AngelList, tied to a unique email address and password with two-factor authentication (2FA) for security. Think of it as your identity on the platform – where you manage personal settings and access any investor accounts you’re part of. Every user profile automatically owns one investor account (usually their own), and you can also be invited to other investor accounts as a team member with customized permissions.
Investor Account:
An investor account is where you manage investments into funds on AngelList. It serves as the “dashboard” in the LP portal, allowing you to oversee and organize activity across one or more legal investment entities in a single place. Each team member is connected through their own user profile:
- It can represent an individual or an organization.
- Team members (via their user profiles) can be invited to help manage investments.
- Any team member with the proper permissions can also invite additional team members to the account.
- Team members can be assigned roles – for example, to view information, sign documents, or transfer funds.
For organizations, we recommend creating an investor account with a shared email (like “ops@firm.com”) and adding individual team members for clarity and better permission control. You can also rename the account (e.g., “Firm Fund I” instead of “Jane Smith”) for easier tracking.
Investment Entity:
An investment entity is the legal structure used to invest – such as an individual, trust, LLC, or partnership. A single investor account can host multiple investment entities, allowing you to manage them all from one investor dashboard. For more details on supported entity types, see this article.
