User Profile:
A user profile is the foundation of accessing AngelList. Each profile is tied to a unique email address and serves as the primary gateway to the platform. This profile is personal to the individual and is used to log in, manage account settings, and interact with the system. Note: A user profile can have multiple investor accounts associated with it.
Investor Account:
An investor account is used to manage investment activities on AngelList, functioning as an LP dashboard or portal. Multiple team members can be added to an investor account with specific roles such as viewing, signing, or transferring funds. Each team member is linked through their own user profile, and permissions are managed by the account owner. Note: An investor account can have multiple investment entities associated with it.
Best Practices:
For organizations, it’s common to use a shared email (e.g., “ops@firm.com”) to create an investor account, enabling centralized management. Individual team members can then be added with their own permissions, providing accountability and operational efficiency. Also, consider renaming the investor account to reflect the associated fund or group, rather than an individual’s name, for greater clarity (e.g., “Firm Fund I” instead of “John Smith”).
Investment Entity:
An investment entity is the legal structure used to make investments, such as an individual, trust, LLC, or LP. Each investor account can include multiple investment entities, allowing investments across different legal structures to be managed in a single account. For details on supported entity types, see this article.
