How do I connect my US bank account?

AngelList is now partnering with Plaid to make it easier and more secure for AngelList users to connect their US bank accounts.

Note: Please disconnect from VPN (if you utilize one) when attempting to connect your bank account via Plaid, as it may create an error. 

You can add any US bank account from your AngelList Funding Account page.

Adding a Bank Account by Selecting Your Bank (Recommended)

We recommend this method because it is the fastest and easiest method of verification.

1. Click on “Add Bank Account” under "ACH Bank Accounts"
   
   
2. Search for and select your banking institution.
3. Enter your credentials to log in to your bank portal through Plaid.
4. Select the bank account you wish to add. 
5. Confirm. 

You will now be able to initiate ACH transfers and withdrawals using your linked Bank Account. 

Adding a Bank Account Using Your Routing Number

This method requires manual verification, and as a result can take several business days to complete.

1. Click on “Add Bank Account” under "ACH Bank Accounts"
2. Scroll down to "Link with account numbers" and click that link.
3. Select "Continue" to be taken to the next screen.
4. Enter the routing number for the bank account you wish to use and click "Continue."
5. Add your account number and click "Continue."                               
6. Confirm your account number and click "Continue."                                   
7. Select the type of account you are connecting.                                 
8. Enter the name associated with your account.                                     
9. Authorize deposits and withdrawals for the account.                               
10. Plaid will make 2 deposits into the bank account you linked to your AngelList funding account page. You will need to return to your funding account page to confirm the amount of each deposit. You can do this by clicking "Verify Microdeposit Amounts" and entering the amount of each microdeposit you received in your account.                               
11. Click "Continue" after entering each amount. 

You will now be able to initiate ACH transfers and withdrawals using your linked Bank Account.

Why are we using Plaid?

Previously, AngelList users could add a Bank Account to use for ACH deposits and withdrawals by providing their account details directly to AngelList. 

In 2021 the governing body for the ACH network, Nacha (National Automated Clearing House), implemented the WEB Debit Account Validation Rule. For AngelList, this will come into effect in March 2022. Under this rule, ACH originators are required to use “commercially reasonable” means to determine that the account number being used for debit is a legitimate open account that accepts ACH entries.

To ensure compliance with this new rule, AngelList has partnered with Plaid to implement a more secure way to link ACH accounts on the platform. As we gradually roll this out to our users, investors on AngelList will be prompted by a Plaid modal to log into their bank account to authorize access when linking new ACH accounts to funding accounts.
