How do I make an investment?

To make an investment, you'll need to enter the information for your investment entity and sign for the investment, self-accredit, and fund the investment. If it's your first time making an investment through a given investment entity, you'll also need to go through our KYC/KYB (Know Your Customer/Know Your Business) process. You'll also need to provide tax information for your investment entity each year.

Setting Up an Investment Entity and Signing for Your Investment in an SPV or Venture Fund

  1. Navigate to the Deals page of your dashboard and click on the deal you wish to invest in (screenshot below). Or, if you have a direct link to invest, open that link. Deal_Page.png
  2. Enter the amount you’d like to invest and click the black “Invest” button (screenshot below). If viewing a Venture fund, click on the blue "Invest Now" button and choose your investment amount. invest_button.png

  4. Select how the investment entity is accredited. Certain deals may require evidence of accreditation (see the "Accreditation" section below).
  5. Submit the personal details of the individual (if you are investing as an individual or through your IRA) or of the entity's signatory if you are investing through a trust, firm, or fund. The signatory must be a human individual. Please note that if you have a U.S. SSN but a non-U.S. address, you can still select "I don't have a U.S. SSN," as we will need to collect an ID to verify your identity later in the process, rather than an SSN.
  6. Submit any additional details that are prompted, such as the number of beneficial owners. The additional details requested will depend on the type of entity you are investing through.
  7. Select the funding method you’d like to use. You can select Bank (for ACH transfers) or wire. If you have not yet connected a bank account, you can click "Add Bank Account" to fund via ACH transfer if your account is located in the US.

  5. Select how the investment entity is accredited. Certain deals may require evidence of accreditation.
  6. Submit any additional details that are prompted, such as the number of beneficial owners. The additional details requested will depend on the type of entity you are investing through.
  7. SSN," as we will need to collect an ID to verify your identity anyway, rather than an SSN.
  8. Select the funding method you’d like to use. You can select wire, or you can click "Add Bank Account" to fund via ACH transfer if your account is located in the US.
  9. Agree to the closing document provisions. Please read each risk and check the corresponding box to indicate your understanding of the agreement.
  10. Once you’ve completed these steps, click the black “Confirm Subscription” button at the bottom of the page.

Accreditation

All investors using the AngelList platform must be accredited. You can find the definition and details of accreditation here. In many cases, you will simply be able to select the option that accurately reflects your accreditation qualifications - you can find the different qualifications here. However, you may need to provide evidence of your accreditation depending on the types of investments you make (find details and the explanation here).

Choosing a Funding Method

You can choose to fund your investment via ACH transfer or wire. If you choose ACH, you can select a bank account you've previously added or add a new one. You can find more information about ACH transfers here. If you choose wire, we'll display wire instructions for you to use. You can find more information about sending funding via wire here

KYC/KYB

If it's your first time making an investment with a given investing entity, you'll also need to go through our KYC (Know Your Customer) process. You can read more about that process here.

Providing Tax Information

Each year, you will need to provide tax information for each investment entity. You can do this by clicking the 3 dots at the top of your investor dashboard and selecting "Taxes & Documents," and then clicking the "Tax Information" tab.
