Why is 2-factor authentication required?

In Q1 2024, we began making 2-factor authentication (2FA) required on many AngelList accounts.

Who is affected?

All GPs, and any LPs with investments or access to funding accounts will need to set up 2FA.

Why did we make this change?

AngelList exists to accelerate innovation and increase the number of successful startups in the world. Over 85k active investors and more than 23k funds and syndicates trust us with their funds and sensitive information. We take that trust seriously, and are constantly improving the security of our systems and processes.

Attacks targeting online platforms have grown more sophisticated, and passwords are no longer sufficient protection on their own. 2-factor authentication increases the security of your account by requiring a second form of verification. AngelList has supported 2FA for several years, but until now it's been optional.

How does it work?

2FA works by asking you to enter a one-time code whenever you log in to your AngelList account. You can opt to receive that code via an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator), or via SMS.

How will I know if 2FA is required for my account?

We’ll be gradually reaching out to users to notify them of this new requirement. We’ll send an email to the primary address on your account, letting you know that 2FA will become mandatory in 7 days. You can set up 2FA at any time before then on your account settings page. If you don’t set up 2FA before that date, you’ll be redirected to do so the next time you visit the site.

We thank you in advance for your support.
