Revocable trust accreditation requires that
- All grantors are of their individual accredited status per the criteria outlined here, or
- The trust has $5M in total assets.
There are 3 types of evidence we can accept, outlined below. Documents must be in English. We recommend obtaining a third-party accreditation attestation (see option 3) if your documentation cannot be translated.
1. Accreditation by Assets
To qualify, the trust must have $5M USD in total assets. Non-US trusts will need the equivalent - we convert non-USD assets at current exchange rates.
- Preferred forms of evidence include, but are not limited to:
- Bank account statements (please note that we are not able to accept balance letters).
- Brokerage account statements
- CPA-audited financial statements in the name of the entity.
- We can consider private equity holdings if we receive recent evidence of ownership alongside a 409A valuation dated within the last 12 months.
- We can accept crypto holdings, provided the trust name is listed on the evidence.
2. Accreditation by “All Owners Accredited”
To qualify, each grantor must meet the criteria of an accredited investor individually.
- A revocable trust may qualify as an accredited investor if all grantors provide evidence that they meet the appropriate accredited investor definition. See the accreditation evidence requirements for individual investors for methods of individual accreditation.
3. Accreditation by Third-Party Attestation Letters (this is generally the fastest method for verification)
All attestation letters must contain the required language. We recommend using or reviewing our accreditation letter templates, or the linked DocuSign below.
Third-Party Attestation to Assets
The attestation to your revocable trust's assets must be dated within the last 90 days, and completed by one of the following:
- Licensed Attorney OR
- Chartered Accountant from their respective region.
A DocuSign for a third-party attestation to the trust’s assets can be found here.
Third-Party Attestation to All Owners Accredited
The attestation that all owners are accredited must be dated within the last 90 days, and completed by one of the following:
- Licensed Attorney OR
- Chartered Accountant from their respective region.
Our accreditation verification process allows you to trigger an automated email to your verifier that is pre-populated with the required confirmation language for them to complete the verification. Alternatively, a template for a third-party attestation that all owners are accredited can be found here.
